POWERS, Robert Francis, 71, a resident of Montgomery since 1980, passed away suddenly at his home, Sunday, August 14, 2005.

Mr. Powers, a practicing attorney, was on the faculty of the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, and Troy State University until he retired in 1994 to practice law full time. A memorial mass will be held Thursday, August 18, 2005, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s with a reception following in the church hall. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2005, from 5-7 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced later.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Virginia Cox, Lisa Brooks, Cynthia Powers, Donna Ward; son, Christopher Powers; 12 grandchildren; brother, Richard; a niece and several nephews.

Dr. Powers received his undergrad degree from Boston College, a graduate degree from The Navy Post-graduate School; a PhD from the United States International University and a Juris Doctorate from Jones School of Law. He served in the US Marine Corp until 1974. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, Alabama Bar Association and the Montgomery County Bar Association.
