James Swift Burkart, Sr. was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1930 to his parents, Roman and Mildred Burkart. From 1948 till 1952 he served in the U. S. Marine Corps as a Battalion Radio Operator with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Townsend Detachment, Marine Corps League in Montgomery.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mary Beth Benson Burkart.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at 10:00am, at Rose Hill Cemetery with Mike McElroy and Andrew Schmitt officiating, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.
