LACKEY, Drue Hiriam “Chief”, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the age of 90. He leaves to cherish his memories: Sons: Michael Lackey, Alan Lackey (Linda), Larry Lackey; Daughter: Druann Moore (Jim Bentley); grandchildren: Michael Lackey (Donita Gaston), Al Lackey (Spring), Ryan Lackey (Kristy) Trisha Evans (Ron), Candace Lackey (Chris Lavey), and Ashley Edwards. He also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and his loving sister, Lucille Sellier.

Mr. Lackey enlisted in the USMC when he was seventeen and served from 1943-1946, having served 25 months in the South Pacific in World War II. He joined the Montgomery Police Department in 1948 and retired as Chief of Police in 1970. He attended the FBI National Academy in 1953, attended Northwestern University from 1961-1962, and received a diploma in Police Administration. He graduated from Jones Law School in 1969 with a Bachelor of Law Degree. He went to work with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy in 1972, and retired after 30 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, and pawpaw.

He can now be with the love of his life, Pat Lackey, who preceded him in death. The family wishes to acknowledge his faithful and loving caregivers: Ann Lewis, Annie Brewton, Vera Fields, LaSonya Harris, LaTonya Harris, Ebony Shackleford, and Avis Shackleford.

His Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 5-7 PM, at Leak Memory Chapel. Visitation will also be held Friday, October 21, 2016, at 12 Noon at Frazer Memorial UMC, followed by his Life Celebration Service at 2 PM at Frazer. Interment will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Vinson, Burt Baldwin, Tom Hollingshead, Bob Elliott, Buddy Fletcher, & Ryan Lackey. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Montgomery Police Department, Marine Corp League, and his lunch group, the R.O.M.E.O.’s.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
